My Mother's Legacy

With every year that passes by
More clearly do I see
How priceless is the legacy
My mother left to me.

A legacy the worth of which
Is measured not in gold.
For giving of it makes it's worth
Increase a hundredfold.

Her joy in so called 'little things'
Too often overlooked
A robin's song....a summer breeze
A simple meal home-cooked.

A field of golden waving grain,
or walking through the woods in rain.

Her earthly wealth was things like these
For she knew poverty.
And so she gave me of herself,
And shared her faith with me.

A faith in God that grew more sure
Despite adversity,
And helped her when life's road was rough
To walk with dignity.

Her quiet strength and guiding hand
That made me feel secure,
And confident that come what may
I could depend on her....

To counsel me, and understand,
And be there with a helping hand.
,

Her selfless love could reassure
And put my fears to rest,
And when she'd chasten me, I know
That's when she loved me best.

She asked for nothing for herself
Except that I would strive
To play life's game by honest rules
And honestly contrive.

To keep the trust she placed in me,
To do the best I can,
To see in all things beautiful,
God's matchless love for man.

No words of mine could e'er express
The love I hold so dear
For that loved one whose memory
Brings laughter, love, and tears.

All through her life she gave her best
To family, God, and friends,
Then left a legacy of faith
And love that never ends.
