Today you will be with me in paradise.

This past weekend our family had the privilege of watching the mini series called the Bible on the History Channel.  We were watching the scene where Jesus was being crucified and Gideon our oldest grand son was watching the scene with great interest.  Now Gideon is just 6 years old and he has a wonderful way of looking at things.  He was asking question after question and my wife Lois the patient grand mother she is answered every one.  Then a very amusing thing happened.  Gideon saw the two men being put on their crosses beside Jesus and he said, "Who are the two fleas being put on the cross beside Jesus."  Well that broke the moment and we not meaning too started to laugh and then Lois explained that they were not fleas but thieves and they were being punished for their crimes and Jesus was dying for the sins of mankind.  As I watched the scene I saw the thief chastise the other thief who had been mocking Jesus and then the thief look over to Jesus and asked Jesus to remember him when Jesus came into His Kingdom.  Jesus replied, "That this man would be with Him in paradise."  What a wonderful scene of salvation and redemption.  In that moment Jesus who is the Savior of the world was saving his first soul.  The thief on the cross would become the first of many, myself included.  Like the thief on the cross I was a sinner and needed redemption.  Jesus death, burial and resurrection gave me that redemption.  The thief that day recognized that Jesus was more than just another man dying on the cross.  In that moment where he said, "Jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom."  He was really saying I believe and put my faith in you.  That is why Jesus said what He said.  Today I encourage you to put your faith in Christ like the thief did and when it is time you will be with Jesus.  Like the flea on the cross as Gideon called him.
